The modern indigenously designed and manufactured Vande Bharat Express trains is a reflection of the fast progress of the country on the development path.

-Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Coincidentally, the production of Train 18 was finished 18 months after it began. It was constructed for 97 crore rupees ($16 million in 2023) and used 80% locally produced materials.[20] After reaching a speed of 180 km/h during its test runs, Train 18 broke the record for the fastest EMU train in India. This speed was just 4 km/h slower than the previous best record for India, which was 184 km/h, set in 1997 by a WAP-5 Class locomotive. The name of Train 18 was changed to “Vande Bharat Express” in recognition of the fact that it was entirely constructed in India by Indian engineers.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched off the first Vande Bharat Express between New Delhi and Varanasi on February 15, 2019, at the New Delhi railway station. The train connected Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi to the capital city, New Delhi, and it cut the current travel time along the route by 15%. The train ran from New Delhi to Varanasi via Kanpur and Prayagraj. The 762 kilometers (473 mi) between the two cities was covered during the 8-hour trip from New Delhi to Varanasi station. But on the way back from Varanasi, a cattle runover caused the train to crash. The train was said to have been stopped at Tundla JN. Railway Stn for more than an hour due to four cars of the train having an electrical problem and the brakes becoming locked.

The Indian Railways-operated Vande Bharat Express has a number of outstanding amenities that improve the onboard experience for its passengers.

When boarding the Vande Bharat Express, passengers can choose between a Chair Car or an Executive Chair Car, both of which include seating configurations with rotating chairs similar to those found on airplanes for comfort and convenience. Additionally, the train has onboard catering, so passengers can eat while traveling. Passengers may take in India’s picturesque beauty while traveling thanks to the large windows in every carriage.

Serving the costumer with a smile

Additionally, the Vande Bharat Express makes sure that its passengers are amused and connected. For those who want to read or work, it provides onboard Wi-Fi, an infotainment system, as well as electrical outlets and reading lights. Incorporating elements like automatic doors, smoke alarms, CCTV cameras, an odor control system, bio-vacuum toilets, and sensor-based water taps, the train’s design also considers the safety and cleanliness of its passengers. Overhead racks provide plenty of space for luggage storage, while roller shades allow privacy and control over natural light.

Non-AC Vandhe Sadharan

For long-distance travel, Indian Railways announced plans to build Non-AC Vandhe Sadharan with sleeper and ordinary coaches.

Speed Limitation

The Vande Bharat Express held a trial run with the train clocking a speed of 183 km/h (114 mph), but most Indian railway tracks are not capable of supporting a speed of 160 km/h (99 mph), so most of the Vande Bharat Express trains have a maximum permissible speed that is lower than 160 km/h. The maximum speed of the train is 160 km/h (99 mph). The Gatimaan Express and Hazrat Nizamuddin-Rani Kamalapati Vande Bharat Express are the fastest trains in India according to the maximum permitted speed, which is only 160 km/h (99 mph) on the Tughlakabad-Agra segment.
