Cricket World Cup Qualification

The World Cup will have 10 teams, much like the previous one. The new ICC Cricket World Cup Super League, a series of games played between 2020 and 2023, served as the primary pathway for qualification as opposed to the ODI rankings. The top eight of the Super League’s 13 teams automatically advanced to the World Cup, where as India, which placed fourth, already had a spot reserved. The 2023 Cricket World Cup Qualifier was played in June and July 2023, with the top five rated affiliate teams and the bottom five Super League clubs fighting for the final two spots.

Why West Indies out of CWC2023?

Due to the qualifying process, West Indies, who previously won the competition, will not be participating in it for the first time because they were unable to advance after losing to Scotland. Ireland and Zimbabwe, two more  also failed to advance, leaving only Sri Lanka out of the four full members that participated in the knockout qualification stage. A match between associate members Scotland and Netherlands earned the last qualifying berth. The Netherlands won the eliminator and earned the last available slot in the competition’s final round.

England is the current defending champion.
